SERENITy COMMUNITY GARDEN
4402 Avenue L (Troy Avenue and Flatlands Avenue)
Brooklyn, NY
Serenity Community Garden is a member of the Brooklyn Queens Land Trust (BQLT), a non-profit organization which owns numerous gardens in the city. Through a private grant, BQLT bought this lot nestled in the quiet yet vibrant neighborhood of Flatlands in Brooklyn. The uniquely triangular shaped lot sat as an abandoned eye sore for many years in an otherwise orderly community.
In 2017, the hope of a useful space became a reality. Members were recruited and volunteer labor transformed the lot into a thriving public green space. On October 7, 2017 the garden was officially opened by New York City Council Member Jumaane Williams, BQLT and the garden community.
Mission Statement:
The purpose of the Serenity Community Garden is to provide a green, restful, beautiful, safe and congenial space for gardeners to garden, and for the community and its children to enjoy. The garden will unite the neighborhood in a welcoming environment, and will also serve as a public space for neighborhood meetings, social gatherings and other activities.
As part of the garden’s mission to sponsor public events, members hosted a Harvest Festival for families in October 2017. Children engaged in educational activities, entertainment was provided and refreshments served.
With strong support from the community and local businesses, progress was made in the Spring of 2018. Members created a vegetable garden and enhanced the appearance by planting flowers. By Summer members reaped the fruits of their labor. Vegetables were shared with members and neighbors. Continuing our effort to advance, Serenity Community Garden will have a Fundraiser in the form of a Bake Sale/Flea market on August 25th from 10am-5pm.
Serenity Community Garden Hours:

To become a member a fee of $20.00 a year is required and adherence to the by-laws.
